Today is my 27th birthday! So in celebration of another year around the sun, I’m sharing 27 pieces of advice to my younger self
Write down people’s birthdays in your reminders apps, regardless of how close you are to them. It’s always a fun surprise to receive a happy birthday text from someone you wouldn’t expect.
If most of your time is spent responding to what other people tell you to do, you’re already behind the 8 ball.
Don’t watch the final episode of Game of Thrones.
Actually, never watch the final episode of any TV series.
Build personal lore – hobbies, interests, niche side quests and more that make you a unique person. And do it with gusto! Most of that lore should only be known to people close to you, though.
When you find socks that you like, buy way way more pairs than you think you need.
Start using Spotify DJ as soon as it comes out.
When you hear a song you like, add it to your Liked Songs playlist. You’ll never regret it.
Burnout doesn’t come from working hard; it comes from lack of momentum and/or direction.
The only way through is through.
Send more cold DMs.
Publish online. If the content is bad, no one will pay attention. But if the content is good, it’ll act as a force multiplier for many aspects of life.
Quality > quantity, but you’re also your own worst critic so bias toward putting the art out anyway.
Never post a photo online of where you are while you’re physically in that location.
Stairs rule: always take the stairs if you’re going <4 floors down or <2 floors up.
Let others get out of the elevator first.
Never lose the plot.
Books are excellent presents.
Getting good at asking follow up questions is a superpower.
Improv classes won’t make you funnier.

Staycations are underrated. Sometimes you just need a week to read, do chores, and think.
The more frameworks you can develop and refine over time, the easier it becomes to make sense of the world.
If something makes you cringe, don’t recoil. Instead, try to dig in further. A strong reaction to anything is worth paying attention to.
When you see something that makes you think of someone, send it to them.
Be nicer to your twin. She’s awesome.
Don’t be afraid of getting older; embrace it! Birthdays are worth celebrating and you’re lucky to have each one.
